The Accra Regional Police Command Wednesday paraded 25 alleged armed robbers including two beautiful women, Agnes Adoma Yeboah, 28 and Abigail Tetteh, 26, whose trade was to serve as informants to the various gangs to which their lovers belonged. The 25 suspects, in three separate groups, were alleged to be responsible for robberies within Nungua, Nautical College, East Legon, Oyibi, Ayensu Rivers Estate, Greda Estates and Adjiringanor, all suburbs of Accra. Briefing journalists at a press conference in Accra, the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Rose Bio Atingah, said in 2010, the residents of the named areas were hit by a series of robberies. Police, through intelligence gathering, got to identify the said robbers terrorising the residents. Operations were mounted and the 25 were arrested in separate instances. One of the robberies was, on December 19, 2010, at Sowutuom where members of one of the gangs attacked three houses on one street and robbed them of money, mobile phones and jewelries. Another incidence was on December 26, 2009 when another group robbed Cynthia Appiah, a pregnant woman, of a number of mobile phones and phone credit cards worth GH¢60,000. The same group also robbed one of Ghana’s renowned footballers, Laryea Kingston’s house at Teshie Tsuibleoo. The group, also on May 25, 2010, went to the Nautical College area at Nungua where they killed Frederick Danquah who raised an alarm on seeing them. The group also robbed several residents of Adjiringanor between 2009 and 2010. In another instance, a member of one of the groups was arrested in connection with the Nungua C5 robbery. Later on November 5, 2010, they engaged police in a gun battle, during which two of the bandits were killed at East Legon. One suspect, Isaac Akwei and his gang have allegedly confessed to robbing residents of Nungua-Adogono and Greda Estate areas. On May 9, 2009 at about 11.30pm, some of the suspects, armed to the teeth, stormed the house of a university professor at Lashibi, near Tema. The professor however mustered courage and fired from his pump action gun when they broke his door, resulting in the death of the gang leader called ‘Mission Net’ while the rest took to their heels. Police investigations have proven that the three robbers who were arrested on March 3, 2011 at Oyibi-Abokobi, together with others, had earlier armed themselves with local pistols and cutlasses and attacked George Gidi at Agbogba. They allegedly robbed him of a Toyota Matrix vehicle with number GR 5548 X. Later, they bolted to Oyibi where they dispossessed a female driver of her Mercury Mariner 4x4 vehicle with registration number GN 2161-09, after which they continued to Valley View University and robbed the students of their laptops. Further, they ordered the students to recite the biblical verse John 3:16 while they subjected them to do their biddings. However, in the process, police arrived at the scene and arrested Agbetorglo who claimed to be 14 years old. He then led the police to arrest two of his accomplices at Abokobi. The suspected robbers paraded Wednesday were Isaac Akei, 22, seaman; Muntaka Saddique, 25; Kwaku Essuman, 26; Steven Borketey Bortey, 23; Emmanuel Amponsah, 25, laminator; Emmanuel Afotey Odai, 22; Patrick Kuffour, 22, second-hand clothes dealer; Otu Laryea, 21, tailor; Eric Ahenkora aka Paa Dogo, 23; Paul Bortey, 22, carpenter; and Isaac Obeng, steel bender. The rest are, Mike Konadu Ampofo, 28, driver; Kwasi Amadu, 29, driver; Amartey Tetteh, 28; Shadrack Amos aka Oga, 34, trader; Fauta Mohammed, 27, herdsman; Joseph Ansah Agyeman, 24, farmer; Elvis Joe Amoako, 28; Vincent Agbetorglo, aka Odomos, 14; Ernest Nana Kwame Acheampong aka Alban Bagbin; Robert Tawiah, 17 and Kwadwo Agyeman, 20. The police boss used the opportunity to call on the media to partner the police in arresting the other hardened criminals who were on the run namely, Ayaa, Aklika, Scarrow, Teye and Sugar.
