First batch of sixty stranded Ghanaians in Libya are set arrive in the country during the week-end.
This was disclosed to Joy News by Deputy Information Minister Baba Jamal on Friday.
It is part of an evacuation plan by the government of Ghana to repatriate its citizens in the troubled North African country.
Hundreds have died in a week long anti-government protests to oust Libyan Leader Muammar Ghaddafi.
The protestors have also turned their anger on Black Africans in the country who they accuse of being mercenaries for Ghaddafi.
An estimated 10,000 Ghanaians are said to be resident in Libya and want to come home.
After an emergency meeting with security chiefs on Friday government has hatched an evacuation strategy to bring the Ghanaians home.
A seven member task force consisting of NADMO, military and police officials have been tasked to superintend the evacuation process, Baba Jamal revealed.
He said the task force will liaise with the Ghanaian authorities in Libya to facilitate a smooth evacuation process.
According to him, over 4000 Ghanaians have so far been registered in Libya and will soon be brought home both by sea and by air.
He described the challenge in mobilizing the stranded Ghanaians as arduous, especially when many of them have no proper documentations and spread across the whole of Libya.
Once brought back to Ghana, the deputy minister said a temporary reception locations at the EL-WAK sports stadium and the Trade Fair have been prepared to house the returnees, at least for a short period.
Baba Jamal called for support from families who have relatives in Libya to call the evacuation centre the following numbers on 0303787673, 0302684887, 0302227201 and 0279430630 for assistance.
