The Deputy Attorney-General, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, has dismissed claims by the 2028 campaign Director for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, regarding his interrogation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) while he was arrested and detained.

After he was released from EOCO's custody on bail on July 14, Miracles Aboagye challenged reports linking his recent arrest to an alleged GH¢55 million financial irregularity.

He claimed that he was not questioned about the said amount; rather, investigators questioned him over transactions amounting to about GH¢9 million and another GH¢5000, with a procurement issue involving GH¢5.2 million.

"I am being questioned over about GH¢9 million, not the GH¢55 million amount circulating in the public domain. The story of my arrest and, subsequently, my house in the public was put out by EOCO for reasons best known to them," he stated in an interview on Asempa FM's Ekosiisen programme on Tuesday, July 21.

However, the Deputy Attorney-General has insisted that Dennis Miracles Aboagye's account was inaccurate.

Speaking on TV3's Hot Issues on Sunday, July 26, 2026, Srem-Sai maintained that Miracles was vey much aware of the reason he was arrested.

"Of course, he is completely wrong. He cannot say that he was not questioned about GH¢55 million. He is very much aware of why he was arrested and detained," the Deputy Attorney-General asserted.

The Deputy Attorney-General cautioned the public against accepting accounts from suspects who have been released from detention without critically examining the facts.

"Recently, Miracles came out to say that nobody questioned him about GH¢55 million, but he was questioned about GH¢5 million, and people believed that. Because Miracles is saying that, everybody believed that is the truth and nobody is interested in asking how do you even conclude it is the truth?" he said.

The Deputy Attorney-General stressed that law enforcement agencies are not obligated to publicly respond to claims made by persons under investigation, as doing so could compromise ongoing investigations.

He explained that investigative bodies such as EOCO are required to gather evidence and, where appropriate, present charges before a court of law rather than engage in public debates.

"EOCO is not under any obligation to be responding to things like that. Law enforcement agencies are not under any obligation to respond. At the end of the day, we bring you to court, we will charge you, and you will have your day," he stated.

He added that whether investigators questioned a suspect about GH¢55 million or GH¢5 million was ultimately immaterial, as any charges would be based on the evidence gathered during investigations.

"Eventually, whatever we will find on you, we will bring you to court," he said.

The Deputy Attorney-General urged the public not to interpret the silence of investigative agencies as confirmation of claims made by suspects.

"I want the public to understand that, law enforcement, because of the nature Of the work we do and because it is an investigation, it is not everything that law enforcement can respond to, but that doesn’t also mean that lack of responding to some of these things means that the person who is saying it is right or correct," he explained.
