A joint taskforce made up of personnel from the Ghana Immigration Service and COCOBOD on Friday intercepted some 79 bags of cocoa beans being smuggled into Togo.
The cocoa beans were being smuggled on board five motor tricycles through an unapproved route along the Akanu border in the Ketu North Municipality in the Volta region.
Sources say the two policemen who were on duty faced some resistance from the smugglers before they were able to overpower them.
While the five alleged smugglers have been granted bail and their tricycles confiscated, one of the policemen who got hurt during the struggle is receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, reports of smuggling continue to be a bother as the government puts in place more measures and incentives for farmers across the country.
