Teachers have been urged to ensure that the integration of kindergarten into the mainstream of basic education under the new education reform becomes workable.
They are therefore to develop new attitude to work and also appreciate the fact that kindergarten pupils also need equal attention as those in primary one and above since they had become part of the basic education.
Mrs Beatrice Boakye-Ansah Prempeh, Obuasi Municipal Director of Education who gave the advice, appealed to the teachers to avoid tendencies that made people to believe that kindergarten was not a serious educational class.
The Municipal Director who visited a number of schools to distribute Ghana@50 souvenir cups to the kindergarten children said "now kindergarten has become part of the 11 years universal basic education and that the medium of instruction will be a Ghanaian language and English where necessary".
The schools she visited included Odumasi Len Clay, Jimiso Kakraba Methodist, Awurade Basa and New Nsuta primary schools.
Mrs Prempeh said teachers should understand the education reform so that they could meet the new challenges posed by the reforms and ensure its successful implementation.
Accompanied by the Public Relations Officer and the Guidance and Counselling Coordinator of the Municipal Education Directorate, Messrs Kofi Mensah and Kwame Appiah, Mrs Prempeh who chatted with the young children told them "these cups are from President J.A. Kufuor and so you must keep it well and also give thanks to the President".
She advised them to be studious and also respect their teachers and parents. "I want you to learn hard and also obey your teachers and parents".
She charged parents to always keep their wards neat and ensure that they were fed before leaving home for school.
