The Homicide Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service has taken over investigations in the killing of an undercover investigator with investigative firm, Tiger Eye PI.

Ahmed Hussein-Suale was shot and killed on Wednesday at the Accra suburb of Madina while on his way home from a gathering with family.

The man, who is said to be investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ key partner, was shot thrice – twice in the chest and once in the neck. He died instantly.

Tiger Eye PI has condemned the ghastly killing of their team member and called for immediate investigations to uncover the perpetrators of the crime.

The killing has shocked the entire nation and while some are calling on the police to probe the matter, others have pointed fingers at Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong.

Mr Agyapong, many believe is a prime suspect in the killing because he has previously threatened to deal with the investigator following his involvement in the Number 12 investigative documentary which the Tiger Eye PI team championed.

Director of Police Public Affairs, ACP David Eklu told Joy News the account of the public and especially those who witnessed the incident is crucial in assisting the investigation.

“The people who committed this crime have been around that environment for a while and as we have already indicated and have been putting out every week, crime prevention tips, I believe that if somebody had alerted the police, perhaps, we could have saved our colleague.

“So we are emphasising that people should pay attention to the weekly crime prevention tips that we put out so that some of these issues that raise suspicion within the community can quickly be brought to the attention of the police so that we can act on it.”

He said further visits to the crime scene have been made by detectives of the CID. They have asked questions and gathered more information to help the perpetrators face the full rigours of the law.

In relation to a video in which MP Agyapong made the threatening comments, ACP Eklu said police have spoken to the MP in person.

“We have also requested the original tape from Net 2 Television where the recording was done to assist us in investigations.

“We are working pretty fast,” ACP Eklu assured adding, the police are in touch with the family of the deceased to ensure that the criminals are apprehended to face the law.

He hopes that Mr Agyapong’s account and the many others they will gather from by their preliminary investigations will help the police build a strong case.

ACP Eklu also disclosed that following the threats on Ahmed’s life due to his involvement in the Number 12 documentary, some form of police protection was offered the investigator.

It is obvious Ahmed did not have that protection at the time of his killing, but ACP Eklu assured that the remaining Tiger Eye PI team will be protected by the police even as it continues investigations into the issue.

Ahmed’s body had been deposited at the Police Hospital awaiting investigations.
