Gold Fields Ghana has denied reports that it is recruiting new persons for various positions at its Damang mine, operated by Abosso Goldfields Limited.
In a statement Friday, the gold mining company deflated the hopes of some individuals who claim they have received congratulatory letters stating categorically that it is a scam and should be ignored.
“The letters also demand that payment of ¢487 be made by the supposed successful applicants as registration fee for a compulsory pre-employment seminar.
According to Gold Fields, they have received several calls from individuals who say they had been asked by the scammers to pay fees for registration and medical check-ups.
In one such congratulatory letter sighted by myjoyonline.com, the supposed successful applicants were told they would receive details of the compulsory two-day seminar 15 minutes after they make payment.
The congratulatory letter offered a net salary of ¢4,780 and also bore the name of a former General Manager of the Damang mine.
“Those who receive such letters are encouraged to report to the law enforcement agencies. Gold Fields does not, at any point in the recruitment process, require applicants to make payment,” the company said.
