Reverend Samuel Affainie Amankwa, Kwabre District Director of Education has called on members of School Management Committees (SMCs) and Parent Teacher Associations to show more commitment in their activities to ensure teachers improve their performance to support students to be successful in examinations. He advised them to consider the schools as their bona fide property and encourage the teachers to work extra hard for excellent examination results. "You have the authority to report any negative developments in the schools to the District Directorate of Education for immediate attention and action. If you leave it for fear of repulse, you would be creating problems for the pupils and students." Rev. Amankwa made the call when addressing a meeting of SMCs and Parent Teacher Associations at Mamponteng. The meeting was to evolve strategies to enhance effective teaching and learning in the district. He stressed the need for them to ensure that parents provided the basic educational teaching and learning materials for their children especially reading books and encouraged them to read to broaden their knowledge. "You have to monitor and supervise activities of the pupils and students to ensure they do the right thing at the right time to improve on their training and education," he added. Rev. Amankwa asked them to organise regular visits to the schools to supervise the work of the teachers, pupils, and students and hold meetings with the teachers to resolve issues amicably. Mr James Osei-Yeboah, Kwabre District Deputy Director of Education called on them to work within the confines of their mandate and not usurp powers of school authorities.
