The National Identification Authority (NIA) has issued a strong warning with threats of severe sanctions for Banks and other institutions found to be rejecting NIA cards.The Authority says officials of institutions found culpable might face up to five years jail term.The NIA says it has received reports that banks and other institutions are denying services to people carrying the “Ghanacard” as identification.The Authority warns it is illegal for any institution to reject the cards. He cited the NIA Act 2006 to back their case.Joy News recently intercepted a document revealing gross inefficiencies at the NIA leading to the removal of its former head, Dr William Ahadzi.The inefficiencies, and subsequent removal of Dr Ahadzi, appear to have affected the legitimacy of the NIA cards which is now being rejected by many institutions across the country.
