President John Mahama has announced that government has invited experts from the US to help unravel the many fire outbreaks that burnt some markets.
Though he won't speculate arson, the president said the fires "are not normal occurrences". He said govt would fix security facilities at the various markets, and would by tomorrow outline new measures to avert future fires.
He announced special packages to assist victims of the fire outbreaks.
The President announced these measures as he visited the Makola No-2 market, the latest to suffer from fire outbreak.
The decision to tour the burnt market was taken moments after President Mahama held a crucial meeting with his Vice, Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur on Thursday, hours after his return from official assignments in Ethiopia.
The President, who was given a thorough briefing on the fire outbreaks, especially last Tuesday’s inferno at the Makola Number Two market, was worried at the developments.
“President Mahama is very much concerned about these developments”, according to Deputy Information Minister, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, while briefing journalists at the Flagstaff House on Thursday.
