The Electricity Company of Ghana says the temporary load shedding guide released a week ago is likely to be extended. The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum last week announced a short-term load management programme due to challenges relating to the availability and treatment of fuel for the optimum operation of the Volta River Authority’s thermal plants.Despite the Energy Ministry’s assurance to end the temporary exercise within a week, some residents in the city continue to experience power outages.During the exercise last week, the ECG was forced to shed as much as 350 megawatts of power each day, plunging many parts of the country into darkness.Public Relations Officer of the ECG, William Boateng tells Joy News the temporary load shedding exercise may be extended a while longer.Meanwhile the ECG has been citing huge cost of power generation as one of the justifications for an increase in tariffs.Acting Divisional Manager for Procurement at the ECG Ebenezer Baiden, says the new proposal will be cost effective.
