The lawyer for three Russian nationals charged with kidnapping by the police a year ago has accused the Service of running away from its case.
This, according to Ralph Poku-Adusei, is because they have failed to put their evidence together for the prosecution of the accused persons.
The Police arrested and charged Musa Musaev, Rizakhan Sultanov and Vladmir Nabiev with kidnapping on July 18, 2018.
This followed a complaint by another Russian national, Ramazan Kafarov who is currently domiciled in Ghana.
According to the affidavit deposed to by lawyer for the three accused, while the accused persons have made over 10 appearances in court, the complainant has never shown up and all Police Prosecutors have done is to ask for an adjournment of the case.
Police Prosecutor, DSP Nanegbe Mawunyo on Thursday told the court that their docket is ready for onward transfer to the Attorney General for advice.
In the circumstance, he asked for a one-month adjournment.
But in a sharp rebuttal to the position of the prosecution, lawyer for the accused persons Poku-Adusei, drew the attention of the Court to the fact this is the fourth time in four months.
He argued that the Prosecution has already said it is ready to forward the said docket to the Attorney General for advice.
The accused persons whose passports have been seized and are in the custody of the Registrar of the Court are demanding through their lawyer, that if the Police are not ready to prosecute them, the case should be discontinued to allow them to have their liberties.
The Circuit Court presided over by Rita Abrokwah Doku, adjourned sitting to July 8, 2019 for hearing.
