Bessa Simons, veteran musician and an aspiring President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), has said the introduction of pension schemes for musicians will help secure their future financially.
The celebrated musician was perturbed about the plight of some retired musicians who are struggling to make ends meet and emphasised the urgent need for the introduction of this scheme for all musicians.
''It is important we get musicians to be interested in pension. This has been a big challenge for local musicians, because they don't believe in contributing towards their future,'' Bessa said.
Bessa also envisaged a better future for Ghanaian music as he seeks to engage the younger generation in the adaption of this concept which he believed would make a big difference.
''What would be the future of young musicians when they don't believe in pension because the current situation of our past musicians is very appalling,'' Bessa said.
Bessa, who served as Vice President under Bice Osei Kuffour's eight-year tenure as President, was hoping to assume the top mantle of MUSIGA with elections set for June 26, 2019, with the likes of Ras Caleb Appiah, Gyedu Blay Ambolley and Appiah Dankwah, all vying for the Presidency.
