Members of the Fanteakwa District Assembly on Thursday decried the strict observance of "taboo" days of farming in the area saying it would adversely affect the production of perishable crops like tomatoes. They have therefore appealed to the chiefs of Fanteakwa to lift the taboo ban on Wednesdays, (which is a taboo day in the area) for farmers to at least harvest their perishable crops.Addressing the Assembly at Begoro, Mr Ebenezer Ofoe Caesar, District Chief Executive, was unhappy at the earlier petition sent to the traditional rulers, which was turned down.He said if the chiefs did not consider the issue the production of horticulture produce under the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) would be undermined as farmers would be restrained from harvesting their crops on Wednesdays. He said the situation would also immensely affect the farmers who would not be in a position to repay their MCA loans.Source: GNA
