Former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Christine Tamakloe-Attionu, has been released from custody.

This comes nearly two weeks after the Court of Appeal overturned her conviction and acquitted and discharged her.

Her release follows the withdrawal by the Attorney-General of an application seeking to stay the execution of the appellate court’s judgment.

The Court of Appeal on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, struck out the application as withdrawn, clearing the way for her release.

Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu served as MASLOC CEO from November 2013 to January 2017. She was prosecuted on 78 counts involving allegations including conspiracy to steal, stealing, causing financial loss to the State, money laundering, improper payment of public funds and breaches of the Public Procurement Act.

The Accra High Court convicted her in April 2024 and sentenced her to 10 years in prison in absentia.

She later returned to Ghana in June 2026 following her extradition from the United States and was taken into custody. Her lawyers subsequently challenged the conviction at the Court of Appeal.

Although the Attorney-General has indicated that the State intends to challenge the Court of Appeal's decision at the Supreme Court, the withdrawal of the stay application means the acquittal and discharge can take effect pending the further legal process.
