Founder of the Blackstar International Film Festival (BSIFF) has revealed that she started the festival to help solve some challenges facing the Ghanaian movie industry.
This, Juliet Asante, who is also a movie producer and director, says is contrary to accusations by unknown persons that she is organizing the festival for personal gain.
“My birth name is Juliet Yaa Asantewa Asante... I am a filmmaker and I started a film festival to help close some of the gaps that my sector faces... which by the way, I also face as a filmmaker...,” she said in a post on Facebook.
BSIFF is an international film festival which kicked off in 2016 and is focused on the business of film.
It is aimed at bridging the gap between African cinema and the world. The festival also gives the opportunity for cultural engagements, networking, learning and fun.
A not too happy Juliet Asante noted that “I have been accused of many things... including that I am pursuing the issues I care about because of self interest... ”
“My answer... yes, I am doing this because I am a filmmaker... duuuh! I will just be charitable and stop myself from using other words... #idiotsabound #yaamusings” she added
The 2019 edition of the BSIFF kicked off on August 20 and ended on August 26.
The festival ran as an official Year of Return 2019 event in Partnership with the Government of Ghana.
