The Jamestown police have secured a warrant to arrest the assemblyman for the area after he assaulted Joy News’ photojournalist.
Joseph Addo also known as Zola physically assaulted David Andoh at Mantse Agbona and incited residents against the Joy Clean Ghana campaign team, Wednesday morning.
The warrant was secured after several attempts to get the assemblyman to turn himself in for investigations proved futile.
“It is an unfortunate incident and we intend to finish investigations quickly…if we are able to establish that indeed he committed the allegations against him we will not hesitate to prosecute him,” the police commander said.
He explained that in cases of assault they invite a suspect to assist them in investigations or arrest the person “but if the person refuses to honour the invitation, then we have no other option than to go to court and have the criminal summons served on the person to appear before the court.”
According to him, they called Mr Addo to present himself which failed to do so they will proceed to have a criminal summon served on him by Thursday to appear before a court.
The Assemblyman smashed the journalist’s camera and another person slapped him from behind demanding that the team leaves the area.
He also subsequently mobilised the community against the team embarking on the campaign at the sprawling community.
The team of police accompanying the media had to call for reinforcement in a bid to quell a possible attack by the residents.
James Addo immediately fled the scene on a motorbike shortly after attacking the journalist.
The action has angered and disappointed the Chief executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Mohammed Nii Agyei Sowah.
