The Roads and Highways Minister has said the resumption of construction works on the Eastern Corridor Road Project in the Volta region will start before the end of 2019.

Kwesi Amoako Attah says the contractor on the Asikumah-Hohoe stretch, GS International Developers, has been paid and are mobilising to return to the site within the next three weeks.

“I want to assure you, Have-Hohoe road, the first 20 kilometres and the second 31 kilometres together with the Asikumah-Kpeve road are all going to have construction works in less than three weeks,” he told a durbar of chiefs at Kpeve during President Akufo-Addo’s just ended tour of the Volta region.

His assurance comes on the back of several unfulfilled promises made by him and the Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Letsa on the resumption of works on various roads in the region since the Akufo-Addo government took office.

Mr Amoako Atta disclosed that about 10,000 certificates of road contractors have been cleared with the recent disbursement of Gh¢2.2 billion.

This, he said resulted in 122 contractors resuming works on various phases of road projects across the country.

He further indicated that the Roads Ministry would commence payment of the second category of contractors on Monday, November 4 to ensure they resume works on their respective projects.

Mr Amoako Atta emphasized the Akufo-Addo government’s vision to deliver improved roads networks to drive the country’s economy, hence would not relent in achieving that feat.
