The 6th edition of Tech in Ghana, the leading conference bringing together Ghana's tech ecosystem for global knowledge sharing, valuable networking, and to showcase innovation has ended in Accra. The two-day event, which was held at the Accra Digital Centre (ADC), was organised by AB2020 and supported by the Ministry of Communications, the British High Commission Ghana and GIZ. It was under the theme ‘Connecting our Global Network: People, Opportunities and Industries', and has in attendance players in the technological industry both locally and internationally. Sponsors include Visa, KudiGo, Jumo, BlueSPACE Africa and MTN. Delivering the keynote address, the British High Commissioner to Ghana, Iain Walker, said the digital economy provides opportunities that African countries can use to promote growth to reduce poverty and create jobs. This, he said, can boost government's ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ agenda. He further reiterated the need for collaboration and partnership in the tech industry to enable the easy sharing of techniques and knowledge; emphasising the UK government's commitment in this regard. Vincent Sowah Odotei, the Deputy Minister for Communications, who delivered the opening keynote said Tech in Ghana has served as a common platform for industry players to engage to make business ideas a reality and create opportunities for the youth, because of the catalytic role it has played as a credible platform since 2017. Vincent Sowah Odotei, the Deputy Minister for Communications He catalogued some notable digital interventions that the government through the Ministry had introduced; targeted at improving the livelihood of the people, such as the use of drones to transfer medical supplies to rural areas, the role out of e-governance programmes and cybersecurity among others. He also echoed the need for partnership between government and private sector to put in place creative and innovative measures that would improve the economic and social wellbeing of the people, especially the youth. Tech in Ghana is held twice a year - in the United Kingdom during London Tech Week in June, and Accra, Ghana in November.
