Reverend David Amadie-Agyapong, General Overseer of Pentecostal Believers Church, Ghana, has stressed the need for churches to initiate more development programmes in their catchments areas to supplement government efforts.He noted that, the church and the state were partners in development and therefore, they must assist in executing development programmes and projects be it health or education besides, the call for spiritual development.Rev Amadie-Agyapong was preaching a sermon at a church service in Kumasi to commemorate the 25h anniversary celebration of the establishment of the church in Ghana last Easter Sunday.The celebration was under the theme “Ebenezer, Thus Far Lord Has Brought Us”.He said this year was crucial in the political history of Ghana, because of the impending December 7 elections and urged politicians and their followers to conduct their campaigns peacefully to ensure a successful election.Rev Amadie-Agyapong expressed concern about increase in immorality in the country and asked churches to intensify their evangelism programmes and activities to help transform society.The General Overseer called on Ghanaians to forge ahead in unity and eschew negative tendencies like rumour-mongering, backbiting, drug peddling, nepotism and others to help develop the country.Rev Alex Afranie, General Secretary of the Church, commended the Church’s founding fathers for their hard work and selfless service over the years.He said, which the Church started with four people in 1983, has now over 45 branches with a population of over 10,000 in the Ashanti, Eastern, Central,Western, Brong Ahafo and the Greater Accra regions.The General Secretary said the way forward, was to extend the church to every region in Ghana and establish also more schools to help promote education in the country.Source: GNA
