Spain's World Cup hero Ferran Torres has been given permission to miss Barcelona training to finalise a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Torres, 26, scored an extra-time winner against Argentina to help Spain claim their second World Cup this summer.

He was due to return to training with the Catalan giants on Wednesday but will not, as a move to PSG gets closer.

The deal with PSG, who play Aston Villa in the Super Cup final on Wednesday night in Salzburg, is likely to be worth more than £40m.

Torres only has one year left on his contract at Barcelona, and some fans have been frustrated that the forward has spoken openly about the possibility of leaving the club.

Speaking on a media tour of the United States following Spain's World Cup win, he said: "I have a contract with Barcelona but, in football, you never know."

Asked directly about links with PSG, he added: "Every time these teams want you it's a good thing.

"You never know because in football everything can change in one minute, so I have to be ready for everything."

PSG have won the Champions League in the past two seasons and are managed by former Barcelona coach and player Luis Enrique.

The Parisians could lose Bradley Barcola this summer, with the forward wanted by Liverpool.

Torres has been at Barcelona since 2022 having previously spent two years at Manchester City. He has scored 25 goals in 65 appearances for Spain.
