A Nutritionist with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) Nana Akua Atteffuah says the nutritional components of breast milk makes breast milk a complete meal for a baby.
Breast milk contains protective nutrients that protect the child against stomach infections the child could contract from feeding on other foods and reduces malnutrition, Nana Akua said on Joy FM's Ultimate Health programme, Tuesday.
It allows the mother appropriate birth intervals which helps in the growth of the child and reduces the mother’s risk of bleeding after child birth as a result of oxytocins released into the blood system.
According to her, the various cancers associated with women such as breast and ovarian cancers can be prevented if exclusive breast feeding is adopted.
Breast feeding has economic benefits. Fathers who encourage exclusive breast feeding save money which could have been lost to buying other food formulas.
