He had many pink sheets to tender; he had an intimidating posture, lulled by a rather soft voice; he was abrasive when he had to, smiled and laughed sparingly; he had a near a impossible task of overturning an election result declared by Ghana's Electoral Commission in favour of an incumbent president; he had all to do and yet one year on after Ghana's historic Election Petition, lead counsel for the Petitioners, Philip Addison says he is more than convinced the NPP should have won that petition.
More reserved than he looked and spoke at the Supreme Court, Addison told Lexil Bill on Joy FM's Personality Profile programme that he gave everything for the case, and despite losing, he was still glad to be part of the historic case in the country's jurisprudence.
He thought the case was meant for veteran lawyers in the party to handle, but no, he was named as the man to lead a team of crack lawyers for the near impossible task and he was only informed just a day to the hearing.
Lectured by Tsatsu Tsikata at the University; honed by Akufo-Addo at the Akufo-Addo and Prempeh chambers Addison has since established himself as one of the greatest legal minds who in all humility "can count the cases lost; not the ones won."
And while the petition may have shot him to fame; Addison revealed just how he rescued some 15 persons who had the albatross of the murder of the Ya-Na hanging around their necks.
His mom had passed on and so too is his wife but his father and his two vibrant sons may well be listening at home to the man who actually wanted to be a diplomat in life but ended up becoming, sometimes, the most undiplomatic person shoving evidence in the faces of criminals.
