President Akufo-Addo has declared Wednesday, March 25, a national fasting and prayer day to help the fight the coronavirus surge.
Speaking on Saturday during the nation’s address, he urged people of all religious background across the country to participate.
"Whilst we continue to adhere to these measures and wrap up our efforts to defeat this virus, I urge all of us also to see the face of the Almighty. So on Wednesday 25 March 2020, I appeal to all Ghanaian Christians and Muslims to observe a national day of fasting and prayer."
Prior to this announcement, President Akufo-Addo, on Thursday, met with some members of the Christian community to pray for the nation.
The Vice-President also met up with the Cheif Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, along with other high-profile Muslim leaders on Friday, to also observe a prayer for the country.
President Akufo-Addo, during his address added, with the increasing cases of localised infections, it is important Ghanaians maintain strict self-discipline to help minimise the spread of the virus.
"I am pleading with each and every one of you comply with these measures our survival is in our own hands," he stated.
Meanwhile, the country's recorded cases of coronavirus have increased to 21. However, one person, a Lebanese trader living in Kumasi, the Ashanti Region capital, passed away from the virus on March 21.
