The head of the Pentecostal Council has said religious bodies will use a common-sense approach to enforce some protocols provided by government for reopening of churches from June 7.
“We are forming Covid-19 teams in the churches, we are going to use medical personnel, we are going to use the thermometer guns. So we will do our best,” Rev Professor Frimpong Manso said on the Super Morning Show, Tuesday.
He told host Kojo Yankson that the onus should be on the individual with the underlying medical condition to decide not to attend a church service.
There have been concerns raised that some of the guidelines provided may present a challenge for church leaders to adhere to.
One of such being, whether churches can determine who has an underlying medical condition and subsequently turn them away from attending a service.
He explained that the person with the underlying health condition will know that they have one while some don’t even know they have such a condition.
“Sometimes some people don’t even know they have it and they will die. So there’s going to be a common sense approach and apply some form of wisdom and see how things are done.”
He advised all pastors and church leaders to be meticulous and religious in observing the new protocols because the coronavirus is dangerous.
“It has come to stay with us and if we play within the rules we are safe and if we don’t we can cause a spike and it would rather be devastating.”
