Parliament has begun work on the Security and Intelligence Bill 2020.
The bill is expected to streamline Ghana's national security architecture and spell out appropriate lines of reporting when passed.
Members of Parliament's Defence and Interior Committee are confident the bill when passed into law will help avert situations like the violence that happened during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-elections.
The bill will repeal the Security and Intelligence Act 1996 which the committee observes has not responded adequately to emerging national security challenges.
Chairman of the Committee Seth Acheampong is hopeful things will change going forward.
"Security is dynamic. The dynamism of security is very much driving us to ensure an adequate structure. You can't have a purely adequate structure but an architecture that will resemble and reflex the times that we live in," he told journalists.
Ranking member of the Committee James Agalga explained the remits of the bill describing it as a panacea to the lapse in the framework.
"What this bill seeks to address is to clearly define the mandate of the minister responsible for National Security vis-Ă -vis the role of the National Security Coordinator," the MP explained.
