The Christian Council of Ghana and Eminent Persons Group of Religious Leaders in Ghana have called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to listen to all complaints from stakeholders in relation to the anomalies detected in the exhibition exercise.
Chairman of the Eminent Persons Group, Prof J. O. Y. Mante in a signed statement on Monday noted that this will be one of the first steps to resolve the tension brewing amongst the citizens particularly, political actors.
He also suggested that “the EC must fully involve IPAC and other key stakeholders in all the processes to avoid situations that we are witnessing at this time when the election is so close.”
Prof Mante also appealed to the citizenry and political parties to assist the Electoral Commission (EC) in any way to facilitate a smooth run of the voters register exhibition exercise and correct the issues spotted.
“The Eminent Persons Group is hopeful that the EC would provide an enabling environment where all critical stakeholders would be able to engage in the processes to avoid suspicion.
“We call on the media to support the process and avoid sensationalism,” he added.
This comment follows complaints raised by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the EC has deliberately deleted names of electorates in its strongholds from the voters register to disenfranchise them.
Meanwhile, the Commission has revealed that it has retrieved most of the missing names that were detected in the newly compiled voters’ register during the exhibitions exercise.
