A women empowerment group, Advocacy For Women Into Power (AFWIP) has launched an official project called ‘Women Lead’ to support all women contesting in the upcoming 2020 general election.
The official virtual launch of the project had guest speakers like Oheneyere Gifty Anti, Kozie Akosua Manu, Abena Dugan, Eno Barony, Maame Ama Pratt, and Naa Klokai Densua IV.
Women Lead advocates for women inclusion in the high echelons of government.
It has called on all women groups, associations, organizations, corporate bodies and individuals in their own capacity to support women in this crucial time.
Oheneyere Gifty Anti delivering her speech during the launch indicated that she will forever stand for women, give women the audience to speak to, and continue to advocate for women’s voices to be heard at all levels in Ghana.
“I have always supported women and I will forever support women” adding that “On the ballot sheet wherever you see a woman vote for her”.
Abena Dugan, Vice Chairperson for Commonwealth Youth Council indicated that her office ensures the active participation of women in any initiative.
She also denounced the notion that “women are not their own enemies" and added that "it is very important we all support women at all levels.”
Mrs. Kozie who is Deputy Chief Executive for the National Youth Authority also commended the AFWIP for such a good job in supporting women in a time like this.
She noted that women just like any other person face challenges and negative feedbacks as they go up the leadership ladder, nonetheless, he encouraged them not to give up.
She also indicated that National Youth Authority is very particular about inclusion and will continue to ensure the participation of women in the affairs of the nation.
Eno Barony, who was also present at the event, took the opportunity to encourage all young women to focus on building their dreams and not feel compelled to conform to the tradition of being known only for their skills in the kitchen.
“We need to fight forward to achieve whatever we want,” she remarked.
AFWIP through their Public Relations Officer indicated that a nationwide campaign for women will soon commence. A media tour and active online promotion will be also embarked upon to ensure that women receive what they deserve.
More funding opportunities will be made available for young women in entrepreneurship across the country.
