The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Essikado-Ketan has denied allegations by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that it rigged the elections in favour of the parliamentary candidate, Joe Ghartey.
At a press conference, the party's Constituency Secretary, Thomas Amoah said the election was credible and transparent contrary to 'unsubstantiated' claims by the NDC.
He stated that the NPP won 99 out of 154 polling stations in the constituency.
"Voting ended at 5 pm with no serious incident being reported by our polling agents at the various polling stations. Counting was done at each polling station in the full view of the public and the result at every polling station was declared at each polling station."
"After this, the necessary documentation, the pink sheet, was duly filled and signed by all the parties present," he stated.
Mr Amoah noted they had received reports that some persons were going to rig the elections thus they were alert on the day.
The party's executives challenged the NDC to prove the allegations of fraud during the December 7 election with evidence.
They also accused the NDC of causing a commotion in the constituency prior to the declaration of the results.
"There was absolutely no basis for this commotion. Neither was there any basis for the claim that NDC had won the Parliamentary election when the results from the various polling stations had not been officially collated and announced by the Returning Officer."
