A scuffle ensued between the police and some NDC legislators who were walking from Parliament House to the offices of the Electoral Commission, Tuesday.

Led by the Minority Leader in Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu and the Minority Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak, the legislators were prevented from going beyond a barricade around the Ridge Roundabout in Accra.

The MPs defied the orders of the police who said they were not aware of any walk by the Minority to the EC offices.

The scene was chaotic as the police were seen physically manhandling some of the MPs including Mr Iddirisu.

Some of the MPs who undertook the walk include A.B.A Fuseini, Mahama Ayariga, Mutawakilu Adam and Laadi Ayii Ayamba, who was pushed to the ground at some point during the march.

The party has been protesting the results of the December 7, elections claiming the EC did not execute a fair and fair election.

According to the NDC, its presidential candidate, former President John Mahama won the election but he was cheated thus their calls for auditing of the results.

Also, the party is alleging that some parliamentary seats it won have unjustifiably been handed to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

One of such seats is the Techiman South.

The Minority MPs have said they will boycott the inauguration of President Akufo-Addo for a second term if a re-collation of the parliamentary results in Techiman South is not done.

Mr Iddirisu told Joy News that the declaration of the seat in favour of the NPP’s Martin Agyei Mensah Korsah is fraudulent and they will not allow it to stand.

“We are standing in denial by collusion of fraud by the Electoral Commission and the NPP. It is not acceptable, you know they are just joking with Techiman South, add it to their number and claim a false 137 which they don’t deserve their 136,” Mr Iddrisu said.

The Tamale South MP further called on the EC to openly collate the results of Techiman South amicably and satisfactorily in accordance to the law of Ghana.

He stressed that the NDC wants “Techiman South results before January 7, by all means necessary”.

“If Techiman South results is not resolved amicably and satisfactorily in accordance with the laws of Ghana and in particular with regulation 43 of CI 127 and more emphatically collation than openly and transparently by EC and we remain in denial that we don’t have the results for Techiman South we will be thinking through what to do on January 7,” he said.

The Minority was prevented from going to the offices of the EC by the police after a lot of back and forth.

They read out their petition and called out for the leader of the police officer to take their petition and give it to the EC Chair, Jean Mensa.

No one came forward and the MPs left as the situation became heated with some members of the NDC leadership including the General Deputy Secretary Peter Otukunor joining them.
