The Parliamentary Service of Ghana has stated that although the events prior to the inauguration of the President were regrettable, they have decided to put it behind them to forge a stronger, unified path aimed at promoting best Parliamentary practices and good governance.
Their press release comes in reaction to the general discontent with the happenings on the floor of Parliament prior to the inauguration of the President.
Members of Parliament-elect engaged in several scuffles on the floor of the House including confusion surrounding seating arrangements, issues of the 'illegality' of the Assin North MP, disagreements with the mode of balloting, and the 'invasion' of Parliament by the military among others.
According to the Parliamentary Service of Ghana, the incidents are regrettable and they hope that in the near future, a similar incident does not repeat.
"Parliament would however like to put them behind it and work towards a more focused, unified Membership aimed at promoting best Parliamentary practices and good governance."
They have assured Ghanaians of their dedication to their duties in assisting the smooth running of the House.
"Parliament would like to assure all citizens that its staff are dedicated to assisting Speakership, Leadership, and the entire Membership of Parliament in the discharge of their duties," January 8.
