The Obuasi Circuit Court has remanded two teachers of Obuasi Senior High Technical School into police custody for one week over allegations that they incited students to attack the school’s headmaster.
Kwasi Brefo, 41, and Joseph Appiah Arthur, 34, appeared before the court for the first time on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
They have been charged with two counts of abetment under the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960.
The court has ordered the two teachers to reappear on August 17, 2026.
The prosecution told the court that the suspects aided and abetted students to cause unlawful damage to property belonging to the school.
They are also accused of instigating students to attack the headmaster, Abdulai Zakaria, on August 4.
Obuasi District Commander, Superintendent Mahama Iddrisu, had earlier told JoyNews that the two suspects were among three teachers arrested following a complaint from the headmaster.
Meanwhile, police are awaiting an autopsy and DNA examination on a male foetus exhumed from a location close to one of the school’s dormitories.
Superintendent Iddrisu said the foetus, which was discovered on August 5, is being kept at the morgue of the Obuasi Government Hospital.
The headmaster, Abdulai Iddrisu, who sustained machete injuries during the incident, has since been discharged from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
