General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu

The General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party, John Boadu has beaten a retreat, saying he now fully supports moves by the Greater Accra Regional Minister to decongest, demolish unauthorised structures and rid the city of filth in his Make Accra Great Again agenda.

After the swearing in ceremony of Henry Quartey as the Greater Regional Minister, he has been applauded for his drive and determination to clear the city from its age long challenges.

This the Ayawaso Central MP is doing under the make 'Accra Work Again' campaign.

However, aside the commendations the minister received, Mr Boadu said the Ministers ongoing projects could pose a challenge to the NPP's interest.

"One thing you look at is that government works does not go against party support on the ground. For instance, the work being done by the Greater Accra Regional Minister is good but it will affect party support on the ground,” he said.

But on Friday, he has conceded that the Regional Minister is doing a remarkable work and retreats his initial comments.

He, however, called for more education to be done about Regional Minister Agenda before execution.

“I support everything that he is doing and we will think that there must be education about it in the first place and eventually it is the Nation that is going to benefit.

"What is important is that this thing must be sustained I am looking at the entire programme and its effect and all that,” he said.

His reversion followed the Minister ordering for the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and police to demolish structures in water ways to allow for the free flow of water in the community to prevent flooding at Lashibi in Accra.

Also, the clearing off of traders who had illegally occupied the pavements in the Central Business in Accra and Madina.

Meanwhile, the Accra Regional Minister has said that his mandate in getting the city clean remains unwavering despite several backlash from critics.

“I work for God and country and I shall continue to work. I have an assigned responsibility by the Commander in Chief of the Arm Forces.”
