Security expert Dr Ishmael Norman, has said criminals are well-informed about the gaps in the criminal justice system, and they take advantage of it.
According to him, this has resulted in criminals doing whatever they want without being arrested.
Speaking on Joy FM's Super Morning Show Wednesday, June 2, he said criminals consider the opportunity cost and consequences of their actions before they strike.
Dr Norman said they ask themselves questions like, "what would they do to me and if I don’t get caught, what would be the benefit to me?"
He called on James Oppong Boanuh, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the Ghana Police Service to get their acts together.
The security expert said there are several unresolved cases due to the lack of capacity of the Police Service to deal with the numerous criminal cases.
Highlighting some of these gaps in the operations of the Police Service, Dr Norman said police investigators in the country are unable to pursue witnesses due to financial constraints.
"We already know that the investigators in this country do investigations with their own vehicles, with their own money. They don’t even have a typewriter. Let alone a computer to write their report."
He suggested that police officers/ investigators need to be equipped with criminal investigative skills and taken through refresher programmes periodically.
