National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, says the party's defeat in the 2020 polls was divinely orchestrated to prepare the party for greater exploits.
He wants the party faithful to be in high spirits as they strategise to reclaim power in the 2024 general elections.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo made the statement when the party hierarchy met with the leadership of the local council of churches in the Eastern Region.
The meeting was part of John Mahama's 'Thank You' tour in the Region on Tuesday.
A similar tour by the 2020 Presidential candidate of the party has already taken place in several regions including the Bono East, Western North, and Ashanti Regions.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said the tour was necessary as "Ghana was in one full piece and not in pieces" after the election.
"Several people are asking, 'why are you going around thanking people when you have lost an election?' We believe that it is a temporal setback because God is using it as a stepping stone for the future of John Mahama and the NDC," he said.
The NDC National Chairman also acknowledged the church's role in the 2020 elections.
He appealed to the clergy to keep up with praying for the peace of the country.
