The team from Mining firm Adamus Resources Limited has won the 2021 Inter-Mines First Aid and Safety Competition.
The event organised jointly by the Chamber of Mines, Inspectorate Division of the Minerals Commission, and St John Ambulance focuses on first aid and safety in the mining industry.
It is also an opportunity for the safety teams of various mining companies to exhibit their competence in handling safety and first aid issues.
The theme for 2021: “Protect others by protecting yourself; COVID-19 is real”, was strategically chosen to emphasise the importance of personal hygiene and the need to observe covid protocols to reduce the spread of the pandemic.
The competition which was live-streamed on national television was very fierce right from the zonal contest since all the teams were poised to carry the day to the finals.
It began with Chirano Gold Mines prevailing against Newmont Ghana Gold Ltd Ahafo Mine, Perseus Mining Ghana Ltd and Asanko Gold Ghana Ltd in a keen contest on 29th August 2021.
On September 5, 2021, AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine and Future Global Resources ended their competition with Ghana Manganese Company and Gold Fields Ghana Tarkwa Mine in a tie.
As a result, their teams made it to the finals.
The last zonal contest held on 12th September 2021 saw Adamus finding their touch after a very fierce competition, achieving victory over Newmont Golden Ridge Ltd only by 0.5 points to make it to the finals.
Even though Abosso Goldfields Ltd and Golden Star Wassa Ltd also distinguished themselves well, it was time for them to say goodbye.
The grand finale took place on November 7, 2021. All the winning teams joined the host team in grand style for the greatest contest competition which saw the team from Adamus coming out on top as the official winners of the 2021 Inter Mines First Aid and Safety Competition.
After the competition, the general manager of Adamus Resources Limited Patrick von Kpekpena, congratulated the team for “A job well done”.
He further thanked them for “raising the Adamus flag on the national stage” and called the win “exemplary”. Engineer Kpekpena then admonished his side “ to do the same for production”.
