Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, has revealed that work on the Tumu-Han-Lawra highway will commence in June.
According to him, this is to ease the discomfort and frustrations that passengers and drivers go through when commuting on the highway.
He said work on the project will begin on June 8, and completed within an estimated 24 months.
Dr. Bin Salih disclosed this when the regent and royal family of Jirapa paid him a visit at his office in Wa.
He noted that the Vice-President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will on May 25, cut sod for work to begin on the construction of the road.
“I am happy to announce that on the 25th of May, 2022, His Excellency, the Vice President will be in the region to cut sod for the commencement of the construction of the Tumu-Han-Lawra road.
The commencement date of the project is 8th June, 2022, and the work is expected to be completed within 24 months. I want to assure the people of this region that that road shall be tarred before we go into the 2024 general elections”, he explained.
Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih also assured residents of Jirapa of deveploment in the area.
“I want to use this opportunity to assure the regent and his people that under my leadership, the Jirapa Traditional Area shall get its fair share of development”, he noted.
JoyNews' Upper West Regional correspondent, Rafiq Salam, reports that for close to 30 years, the highway has remained one of the broken promises of governments.
Two years ago, government announced the commencement of 36 road projects in the Upper West Region.
The Tumu-Han-Lawra highway was part of the projects to be undertaken in the Upper West Region which was announced by the Roads and Highways Minister, Kwesi Amoako-Atta.
Major roads covered by the projects include; the Tumu-Han-Lawra road, Wa-Han road, Fian-Wahabu road, Wa-Bulenga road, Ga-Wechiau road, Wahabu-Funsi-Yala road, Nadowli-Lawra-Hamile road, Wa-Nyoli-Sawla road, Tumu-Hamile road and the Kulun-Ambalara bridges among others.
