Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia says the Free Senior High School programme has seen an increment in SHS enrollment which has resulted in an increase at the tertiary level.
"Today, senior high schools are graduating twice the number of students they use to if not more.
Enrollment in SHS increase from 881,600 at the end of 2016 to the current level of 1,202,255 in 2021.
This represents the biggest increase in secondary level enrollment in our recent history", he said.
According to the Vice President, the programme has enabled all to have access to education.
Speaking at the investiture of Dr. Kofi Koduah Sarpong as chancellor of the University of Professional Studies Accra, the Vice president Dr. Bawumia said tertiary schools need to contribute to education using internally generated funds and applauded UPSA for their efforts to support the government.

Dr. Kofi Koduah Sarpong has distinguished himself in all aspects of life and also has an extensive background in executive management for over 30 years has succeeded HRM Drolor Bosso Adamtey 1 as the second chancellor of University of Professional Studies, Accra.
He also taught Cost Accounting and Taxation at formerly Institute of Professional Studies IPS now UPSA from 1981 to 1985 handling students pursuing Chartered Institute of Cost and Management Accountants (CIMA) and Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG) certificates.
According to him, the mandate of most universities is to undertake research in a discipline that falls within the mandate of the university but is usually impeded due to funding.

Therefore in collaboration with the school council, he will set up the Chancellors Endowment Fund for research with a target of 20 million cedis. He also pledged to dispense his duty to the best of his ability.
"It's been my policy objective so to speak that wherever I go I leave a legacy. Here I look at the gap in the funding for research and based on a DFI from the department of International Development on UK report that I studied says that Ghanaian universities lack funding for research", he said.
The governing council of the university appointed the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana National Petroleum Corporation Dr. Kofi Koduah Sarpong as the new chancellor of the school at the beginning of this year to fill the role according to section 14 of the UPSA Act. ACT 850 and section 5.0.
