Actress Ama K. Abebrese has called out actress Efia Odo over her “never give a black man power, he’ll just misuse it' comment, describing the comment as totally ignorant and “a setback mentality.”
This is after the latter tweeted that Ghana’s independence came too early.
Efia Odo has recently been actively speaking against the high cost of living and economic hardships currently being experienced in the country but it appears she missed the point this time since she has come under criticism for making such a statement.
Reacting to her post, Ama K. contended that such a comment downplays the importance of interactions that have taken place in post-colonial Africa which have seen years of trade deals that continually benefit the West.
Ama K. stated that colonialism should not be seen as the ideal solution for Africa just because of bad leaders.
She added that terrible leaders must be held accountable for their actions.
“I doubt you would suggest slavery ended too early or African Americans misused their power. However, you suggest colonialism ended ‘too early’. African history did not begin with colonialism and slavery. We had many great civilisations prior. We must educate ourselves. But miss me with the post-colonial ignorance,” the actress noted.
