Dr Akinwumi Adesina, President of AfDB

The President of African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, has commended the King of Morocco, King Mohammed VI (Founder of University Mohammed VI Polytechnic) for opening up a new environment for all Africans to acquire knowledge through quality university education.

He made this known during his visit to inspect the university’s environment in Morocco on Wednesday 27th July, 2022.

“I am absolutely delighted to be here. I don’t want to leave because it’s a new way of learning; but I must first  commend and congratulate his majesty, the king, Mohammed the VI for the vision that  he has, actually for learning, for opening up the space  not only for Moroccans but for African to learn to be immersed in their new environment for learning’”.

According to Dr. Adesina,  he had  visited a lot of universities in America, Europe,  and elsewhere  “but this particular university stands out to be the best and  has a different way of learning with world class  infrastructure; world class faculty. It gives students the ability to learn in an open platform.”

“This is quite impressive, some of the things that I notice are its innovativeness, creativity, the ability to release the power of the mind”, he mentioned.

“University Mohammed VI polytechnic has innovative technology, creativity and environment which has the ability to release the power of the mind’, he pointed out.

“We went to a laboratory in which they were actually looking at the fellow typical characteristic of plants which is called the fellow mobile.   For somebody like me  with  agriculture  background,  it’s mind boggling because it  means that you can actually simulate in one environment  all the stress factors that the plant has. It can reduce the stress and length of time for breading a crop with a particular fellow-typical characteristic plan from four years to one year”, he noted.

The lab contains students with no education background and have no knowledge and training in computer sciences.

Many students have graduated through this system and have found jobs and also created jobs for themselves. There’s also a digital learning Lab that facilitates digital learning training and also provides digital learning across countries.

During the spread of the Covid-19, this facility connected so many universities all over the world to advance teaching and learning. They are accredited by some of the biggest universities in the world

“I’m impressed not because of their work but the generosity of King Mohammed VI and his staff at the OCP, Mr. Terrab, CEO of OCP. And I wish all companies in Africa can do what OCP has done here”, he concluded.
