The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Ghanaian referee Daniel Laryea to officiate the CAF Confederation Cup encounter between Kaizer Chiefs and Egypt’s Al Masry.
The match is scheduled for Sunday, January 8, as both sides lock horns in a crucial group-stage fixture of the competition.
Laryea’s appointment comes on the back of a strong run of high-profile assignments on the continent.
He recently took charge of the Africa Cup of Nations semi-final clash between Morocco and Nigeria, a performance that was widely praised as one of the best officiating displays at the tournament, despite drawing backlash from sections of Nigerian fans unhappy with some decisions.
The experienced referee continues to enjoy the confidence of CAF, underlining his growing reputation as one of Africa’s top match officials.
Beyond his continental duties, Laryea has also been recognised at home.
He was recently honoured at the Ghana Football Association Secretariat after being presented with his FIFA referee badge, marking his status as one of Ghana’s elite officials cleared to handle international assignments.
His appointment for the Kaizer Chiefs–Al Masry fixture further highlights Ghana’s strong representation in African football officiating
