The maiden edition of Fish Festival is expected to take place from today November 24 to November 25, 2022.
The two-day event will celebrate the importance of fish in the daily lives of Ghanaians.
Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Mavis Hawa Koomson disclosed this in an interview with Joy Business in Tema.
“I sat down with my lieutenants at the ministry and we came out with the idea to celebrate fish. The attention has mostly been on food with little to no attention given to fish”
“You know in Ghana we celebrate Farmers’ Day every year, Fisheries is part of the celebration, but we realized that we’re not heard much and also people do not know some of the things you can use fish for apart from soups and stew,” she said.
Hawa Koomson then cited khebab as one of the food stuff fish can be prepared out of it.
Fish with its importance in the country’s economy is a major protein source.
“It is the major protein source for Ghanaians and this event will bring together players in the industry to help exhibit the use of fish and create awareness,” she hinted.
The minister sees such events and other initiatives as a means to help brighten the ministry’s corner.
