Government statistician, Professor Samuel Kobina Annim, has called on Regional Coordinating Councils to assist with the collection of data for computing inflation.
According to him, this will boost the work of the Ghana Statistical Service in generating inflation figures for the country.
Speaking on PM Express' Business Edition on Thursday, he explained that over the years, his outfit has been committed to churning out reliable inflation data, to guide the decision of policy makers and other relevant stakeholders.
He however stressed that with enhanced support from the various Regional Coordinating Councils, the computation of inflation will be better enhanced.
"From our point of view, we feel that the Regional Coordinating Councils should really get involved with what is happening in their regions in terms of the data collection [and] in terms of the figures that we're putting out" he emphasised.
His call comes on the back of widespread concerns about the hikes in the country's inflation figures since the beginning of the year.
Some policy makers have been questioning the increasing rate of inflation in the country in recent times; a trend they believe poses a threat for other macro economic indicators in the country.
Inflation for the month of November hit 50.3%, the highest in 27 years.
This followed the trend of increments which have occurred all year long; causing policy makers and stakeholders to be worried about the situation.
Reacting to these concerns, Professor Annim said the Ghana Statistical Service has in recent times, responded to invitations by stakeholders to thoroughly explain the situation, as part of efforts to clarify the high level of inflation.
