The Electricity Company Ghana (ECG) has restored power to University of Environment and Sustainable Development at Somanya in the Eastern Region after the institution made full payment of its debt.
The University was owing the power distribution company an amount of about ¢867,700 which was the total cost of power consumed in the three years of its operations.
Public Relations Officer for ECG, Tema Region, Sakyiwaa Mensah told Joy Business the company cut power to the University on April 4, 2023.
“The school made an initial payment of ¢50,000 after their power was disconnected by the ECG team. This amount, however, was not enough to restore supply as against the total debt”
“They had their power supply truncated on April 4, 2023 and it was restored on April 18, 2023 after full payment was made,” she continued.
ECG on March 20, 2023 began a nationwide revenue mobilisation programme to claim debts owed it by various customers which was to end on April, 20, 2023.
The company deems the exercise as one the means to ensure customers pay for power consumed.
Sakyiwaa Mensah encouraged customers of the power distributor who are in debt to make payment to defray this debt.
She assured that the revenue mobilization drive which forms part of their operations will happen periodically.
