Film company Old Film Productions are seeking compensation from media station EBN for allegedly infringing on their copyright.
In a letter addressed to the media company, lawyers for the CEO, filmmaker Peter Sedufia indicated that the company on Saturday, July 12, broadcast the movie Aloe Vera - a work owned by OldFilm Productions - without their permission.
“The work was released in 2020, and my client has since had minimal opportunities to monetise the work through sales, premiering or authorised broadcast despite the high cost of production,” parts of the letter written by the producer’s lawyer read.
“The unpermitted broadcast of the work constitutes an infringement of my client's economic rights and intellectual property, which limits the work's economic value and imposes criminal consequences for every director of EBN Television,” the lawyer noted.
The letter indicated that Mr Sedufia is ready to extend an opportunity to negotiate adequate compensation for the copyright infringements.
“You are advised to act on the legitimate and fair demand for compensation within ten days of this letter, failing which, I shall act as instructed and initiate legal proceedings for compensation without further recourse to you,” the letter reads.
