Former Interior Minister and former Member of Parliament for Nandom, Ambrose Dery, has announced his intention to contest the Nandom parliamentary seat again on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2028 elections.
Mr Dery said the decision followed consultations, prayers and calls from constituents urging him to return to active parliamentary politics.
Speaking on Nandom FM on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, he said he had reflected on the appeals and was prepared to offer himself again.
“I’ve heard the call. I’ve prayed about it. I’ve agreed that I will put myself forward,” he said.
Mr Dery, who previously represented Nandom in Parliament and later served as Minister for the Interior under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, attributed his past achievements to God.
“Any good thing Nandom people say I’ve done is not by my strength. It’s by the power of the Almighty,” he said.
He further stressed his reliance on faith, adding: “My strength is from God and the glory is God’s.”
His declaration is expected to draw attention within the NPP in the Upper West Region as preparations gradually begin for the 2028 parliamentary elections.
Mr Dery is regarded as one of the NPP’s most prominent political figures in the Upper West Region and has served Nandom in Parliament for several terms.
The current Member of Parliament for the Nandom Constituency in the Upper West Region is Dr Richard Kuuire. He represents the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
