Founding Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Prof Ernest Kwaku Dumor has shared the nuggets that tremendously to his success in academia.
According to Prof Dumor, before he left for the university, his father had told him something that would go on to inspire him to study harder than usual.
“My father told me clearly that if I should go to the university and just simply have fun, I would come back not even qualified as a school teacher, so it was important for me to concentrate on my books," he said.
Speaking in a yet-to-be-aired edition of PM Express: Personality Profile, Prof Dumor recounted how the first university exam was compelling and a determinant for whether one would continue with studies.
The academic added that with his father’s words in mind, he concentrated on his books and prepared seriously for the examination.
“So there I was faced with the first university examination and with this warning from my father, my focus was entirely on my books.”
He recollected how he spent most of the time in the library, searching through and making use of everything he could find.
The former NIA Executive Secretary added that the university at the time provided services for the students and there was ample time for studies.
Professor Dumor also mentioned how his fear of failing amidst this comfort in the university would portray a wrong image of him for those back in the village.
He is the father of the late renowned BBC Journalist, Kormla Dumor.
The full episode will be aired at 9 pm on PM Express; Personality Profile on JoyNews.
