A stage adaption of 1965 American movie, ‘The Sound of Music’, is due for production at the National Theatre on October 14, 2023.
Produced by television personality and event host Roselyn Felli, the play features Naa Ashorkor, Clemento Suarez, Perez Musik, Elvis Crystal, Alexandra Aboagye, Bryan Tachie-Menson, and Jackie Ankrah.
The original work (the musical) was composed by Richard Rodgers, with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. The film's screenplay was written by Ernest Lehman, adapted from the stage musical by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse.
While it is unknown what Roselyn and her team bring to bear on the stage adaption, she has promised it will be unique, entertaining and relatable to the Ghanaian audience.
In the play, a young postulant is sent as a Governess to 7 ‘unruly’ children. She faces the task with trepidation. Can she take the children or get more than she bargained for? Patrons should get ready to sing along to their favourite tunes Do-Re-Mi, Edelweiss, Climb Every Mountain, as the National Theatre comes alive with The Sound of Music.
Roselyn, a host of Prime Morning on Joy Prime television, is a graduate of Theatre Arts from the School of Performing Arts at the University of Ghana, Legon.
According to her, art is her first calling, and putting up this production is just a way of fulfilling her quest to impact the creative industry.
