In a statement issued on December 8, 2023, the Minority in Parliament expressed relief after the government opted to suspend the introduction of import restriction regulations.
The caucus vehemently opposed the regulations, raising concerns about potential corruption and adverse economic impacts.
They criticised the regulations for providing the Trade Minister with excessive discretionary power over import licenses and quantities without adequate checks and balances.
