Prof. Marian Asantewah Nkansah, an associate professor of environmental chemistry at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, has been named a Fellow of the International Science Council (ISC).

The ISC appoints 100 new Fellows to help advance its vision of science as a global public good.

She is the only Ghanaian academic on the list of 100 new fellows.

The Fellowship is the highest honour that can be conferred on an individual by the ISC.

Prof Marian Asantewah Nkansah is known for her research in cancer-causing substances in edible clay locally known as 'ayilo' or 'shile'.

Prof Nkansah has also worked on heavy metals in common spices, meat, honey, tea brands and medicinal herbs on the Ghanaian market.

She hasn't also left out heavy metals in Mechanically-milled fufu and groundnut paste.

Her other research exploits have touched on the dust pollution at fuel and lorry stations, markets and the streets.

With her extensive research on the quality of groundwater in Ghana, some of her studies have focused on the use of peanut shell, sawdust, clay and scales of fish like tilapia for water purification.

Prof Nkansah is currently the Deputy Director of Students’ Affairs in charge of Housing & Welfare, KNUST.

She is also a Fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences and a Member of Ghana Science Association (GSA).

She is also the author of the book: Inspirational Quotes for Living.
